FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man died Wednesday morning after he was hit by a big rig on Highway 99 in central Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says around 4 a.m. they responded to a call about a person walking in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 just north of McKinley Avenue.

Investigators say a big rig was traveling at 55 miles per hour when the driver tried to avoid hitting the man, but unfortunately ended up hitting him. He died at the scene.

CHP says the man was possibly under the influence but as of now, they are waiting on a toxicology report.
