SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — According to the California Department of Public Health in a release Wednesday, a third human case of bird flu has been detected in the state.

CDPH reported that the case was identified in a person who lives in the Central Valley who had come into contact with infected dairy cattle. Additional testing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the case as positive, authorities said.

Two new possible human cases, also in the Central Valley, were detected by officials, according to CDPH. More information on California’s bird flu response can be found here .

There is no known link or contact between any of the possible or confirmed cases, which suggests that the virus is only spread from animals to humans, CDPH said. No individuals have been hospitalized due to the virus, the release stated.
