CLOVIS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A power outage in Clovis early Wednesday morning was due to a violent car crash that left the driver in critical condition in the hospital, according to the Clovis Police Department.

The area where the crash took place is immediately after a rise in the road where Barstow Avenue goes over a canal. The vehicle stopped after it crashed into a nearby fence and multiple light poles.

“We urge drivers to be responsible when behind the wheel, and we are thankful no one else was injured this time,” Ty Wood with the Clovis Police Department said.

Officials add that the crash meant multiple city blocks lost power and a major roadway was closed for much of the day to allow repairs to be completed.

At this time, police say alcohol is suspected to be a factor. The name of the driver involved was not officially released.
