FRESNO, Calif. ( KGPE ) – A severe geomagnetic storm has made the northern lights active across parts of the United States.

It is possible to see the northern lights in Central California during severe geomagnetic storms, but unfortunately, the weather may not cooperate.

Clouds blanketed the Valley and Sierra on Thursday, but if there is a break in the clouds, a faint aurora may be visible. Get away from city lights, and look toward the northern horizon Thursday evening and night.

Sometimes, the northern lights are too faint to see with the naked eye. Try taking a photo, as sometimes they can pick up on the colors the eyes cannot see.
