TULARE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Neighbors are shaken after two people were shot dead in North Tulare Friday.

Police say they found a 44-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man dead inside a condo on North Gem Street just after 2 a.m. Neighbors say the area is usually quiet.

“[We] never have anybody up here that shouldn’t be over here. All the neighbors are friendly and always saying hi,” a neighbor said.

Friday morning, the quiet was replaced with screams and sirens. A second neighbor said they heard a woman let out a blood-curdling scream followed by several gunshots at around 2 a.m.

“I’m glad I didn’t hear it, because I can’t imagine having to live with that,” the first neighbor said.

She wishes she could have helped, but even the medics on the scene could not get there in time to save those who were shot. Those who live nearby are shaken.

“I didn’t know if it was a burglary because, like, I live right here, they kind of came in. Especially being a female, you know, by myself, that’s very scary,” she said.

2 found dead with bullet wounds in Tulare home, police say

Police have not released any suspect information, but they say this was likely an isolated incident and the community is safe.

The first neighbor says this situation has taught her that you never know what is happening behind closed doors.

“We can live right next to what you think is a happy home, and it could be totally different,” the first neighbor said.

Police have not released the identities of those killed, as they are still notifying family members. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
