‘They say it’s a private event’: Neighbor after Fresno drug bust

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A Fresno County drug bust netted suspects, nearly 600 pounds of drugs, cash, and firearms.

The large drug operation, called Sunday Funday, was taking place out of a shop on North Grantland Avenue, next to the Justin Garza High School.

“They were basically opening up this shop so many days a week for this long, going undetected, they made a lot of money off this, so there’s going to be a lot of people who are both sad and angry to be out of business,” said Tony Botti, public information officer for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office believes this operation has been going on since at least the beginning of this year, but the department only recently received a tip.

“It was probably one of those things that just started out on Sundays and it was so profitable that they ended up hosting it several times throughout the week,” Botti added.

From what neighbors told Yourcentralvalley.com, there were packs of cars gathered every Tuesday and Thursday night.

“There’s a gentleman out here who usually stands when they’re going in and out with a vest on, and he says he’s security, and when you ask what’s going on, they just say it’s a private event,” said Jason Oxford, who lives down the road.

The Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant last Thursday.

Nearly 100 people ran when deputies showed up, but 30 were detained and interviewed.

“We’ve heard stories that there were even more than that in the past, they would turn this into kind of their own little party, sometimes I heard they had deejays there, they would bring in outside food vendors,” said Botti.

Drugs for sale included Marijuana, THC edibles, Ketamine, Cocaine, LSD, and more.

Botti believed nearby students knew there were drugs for sale there, “or they told their friends at other schools and they may have been customers at one point in time.”

Four suspected drug distributors were arrested, but not everyone wound up behind bars.

“There were other vendors that we were able to grab the smaller amounts of product that they had and take off,” said Botti.

Botti emphasizes the importance of tips like these. He encourages the public to report any suspicious activity and adds they can do so anonymously.
