FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A fetus was killed in a three-vehicle crash near Coalinga, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say a driver in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was travelling southbound on Interstate 5 south of Highway 145, at 70 miles per hour. A 2022 Subaru Forester, was southbound on Interstate 5 south of Highway 145, directly ahead of the Hyundai. A 2017 GMC Yukon, was southbound on Interstate 5 directly ahead of the Subaru.

The drivers of the Subaru and GMC had slowed and stopped due to an unrelated traffic crash. At that time, the driver of the Hyundai did not notice that traffic ahead of him had stopped and the front end of the Hyundai collided with the rear end of the Subaru.

The impact of this crash propelled the Subaru forward and the right front collided with the rear of the GMC Yukon.

A woman who was pregnant in the Subaru sustained facial trauma and a possible concussion. She was airlifted by Sky Life to Community Regional Medical Center. According to the California Highway Patrol, upon examination at CRMC, it was discovered that her fetus had sustained fatal injuries during the crash and died.

Investigators add that, at this time, it does not appear that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash.

I’m sorry to hear this. The poor woman must be in great emotional pain on top of the physical. Prayers for her and her family go out.

how devastating it's traumatic enough to have an accident but to lose your baby a double tragedy. May God bring comfort and healing to all of their injuries and also for the loss of their child.🙏✝️
