MERCED, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 17-year-old is facing charges after allegedly stealing and crashing his parents’ car on Monday, the Merced Police Department said.

Police say a 17-year-old stole his parent’s car on Monday afternoon, and the vehicle was later spotted near a school.

When they attempted to contact the driver, officers say the juvenile fled at speeds of over 100 mph. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed against another vehicle with a woman inside.

As a result, police say the 17-year-old sustained moderate injuries for which he was receiving treatment. The woman suffered major injuries but is expected to be okay.

Once medically cleared, investigators say the juvenile will face numerous charges in connection with the incident.
