MADERA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man has been arrested after allegedly being discovered tampering with vehicles in Madera, the Madera Police Department said.

Police say they responded to a subject tampering with vehicles in the 500 block of S. D St. in Madera on Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival, officers say they located 34-year-old Zacarias De La Cruz holding a tire iron and matching the suspect’s description. Although De La Cruz initially dropped the tire iron while the officer gave him orders, he picked up the weapon again and attempted to flee from officers as they approached to detain him.

According to the Police Department, the man was successfully apprehended and was taken into custody without any major injury to either party.
