FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The driver in a crash that killed two women in Fresno earlier this week is facing two murder charges, according to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

The DA’s office announced Friday evening that charges have been filed against 18-year-old driver Adam Canales . Prosecutors allege that he drove a vehicle into the home of 18-year-old Eliza Yang and 25-year-old Mang Yang. The crash killed both sisters in their bedroom.

Officials say Canales was attempting to get away from deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, who were attempting to pull over the white SUV he was driving Wednesday night. Deputies had been chasing him in the area of Cedar Avenue and Nevada Avenue in southeast Fresno when he crashed into the victims’ home. The crash caused the death of both sisters.

As well as two murder charges, the DA’s office has also filed charges of evading an officer causing death and leaving the scene of an accident. He is facing 30 years to life in state prison if convicted of the charges.

Canales’ first appearance in Fresno County Superior Court to answer to the charges listed is set for Oct. 21.
