Officers say they responded on Saturday at around 3 a.m. to the parking lot of the Rite-Aid at Cedar Avenue and Nees Avenue regarding a shooting victim. They found a 19-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body. Officials say officers and EMT personnel provided first aid on the scene. The victim was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno, but she died a short time later.
The victim was identified on Monday by police as 19-year-old Aaliyah Bonman.
Homicide detectives began their investigation and learned that before the shooting, Bonman had been involved in a physical disturbance with a 21-year-old woman.
The 21-year-old suspect was named by police as Penelope Mehr.
Officials say they determined that during their altercation Mehr fired a handgun at Bonman, leading to Bonman’s death. According to officials, undercover detectives located Mehr near the intersection of Second Street and Jensen Avenue on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Mehr was taken into custody and later booked into the Fresno County Jail for her suspected involvement in Bonman’s death.
Detectives say they identified 18-year-old Nevaeh Solomon as a person who allegedly aided Mehr during the shooting. Investigators say Solomon is currently wanted by homicide detectives as an accessory.
Police say that although an arrest has been made, detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Fresno Police Department.
