    Several local Memorial Day parades cancelled

    Erie, Pa. ( WJET/WFXP ) — As much of the area sees a risk for thunderstorms through Memorial Day today, many local Memorial Day parades have been canceled due to the threat.

    Memorial Day Parades:

    East Springfield Memorial Day Parade : The 107th Annual Memorial Day Service will be held at the Springfield Cemetary beginning at 11 a.m. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at Federated Church Sanctuary, 11995 Main Street.

    Erie County Veterans Memorial Park Memorial Day Service: The Memorial Day Service will begin at 2 p.m. at the Erie County Veterans Memorial Park Intersection of Glenwood Park Ave. & State St.

    Jamestown, New York Memorial Day Parade: The parade will begin at 10 a.m. in Baker Park on 4th and Jefferson Streets. and will conclude at the corner of Lakeview and Buffalo Streets.

    Canceled Memorial Day Parades:

    Fairview Memorial Day Parade : In a post on the Fairview Township website, the township said: “Due to anticipated inclement weather, the Memorial Day Parade in Fairview Township has been canceled. Please set aside time to honor the brave men and women who have given their lives to preserve our great nation’s freedom.”

    North East Memorial Day Parade: The American Legion Post #105 Family posted a statement on their Facebook saying: “In consideration of the uncertain weather forecast for tomorrow, we have opted to CANCEL the MEMORIAL DAY PARADE and Ceremonies to prioritize the safety of all participants. Thank you for the continued support, be safe, and above all, remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. “

    Girard Memorial Day Parade: American Legion Post #494 in Girard has canceled Monday’s Memorial Day parade due to the threat of severe weather. There will still be a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 2:30 p.m. The location has changed and will now take place at Girard Legion Post #949, 42 Wall Street Girard, PA.

    Meadville Memorial Day Parade: After consultation with Meadville fire chief Pat Wiley and the prediction of possible lightning and hail from the National Weather Service on Monday morning, the Meadville Area Memorial Day Observance Committee has decided to cancel its Memorial Day parade. The Solemn Observance at 11 a.m. will still be held. It has been relocated to the bay of the Meadville Fire Station at 850 Park Avenue.

    Waterford Memorial Day Parade : Waterford’s Annual Memorial Day parade has been canceled due to weather.
