SAINT MARYS, Pa. (WTAJ) — A teen was charged after threats were made toward Saint Marys school on Friday, according to state police.

On a day when Ridgway schools closed and Altoona schools went into a 2-hour-delay over threats, state police were called to investigate a threat directed at Saint Marys Area Middle School on Friday, Sept. 13.

While details are limited at this time, troopers report that the origin of the threat was found to be a 13-year-old girl from Kersey, Pa.

Charges were filed through juvenile court, troopers said.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, threats circulated on social media toward Ridgway and Altoona area schools. Ridgway schools closed for the day Friday.

Altoona schools went into a 2-hour delay after police found no credible threat. The delay was meant to give time for the superintendent at the high school to meet with faculty and staff before the day started.

Outside of schools, local police in Cambria County recently had to deal with a swatting call about a shooting in the borough that turned out to be a spoof call.
