As Erie’s first snowfall of the season draws nearer, Millcreek Township is looking for help to keep its snow plows operating.

Since 2023, Millcreek Township has been down from six mechanics to two and is looking for experienced workers to fill those positions.

The two mechanics that remain are focused on police car maintenance, leaving little to no help for maintenance on the snow plow trucks.

Millcreek Township has 17 snow plow routes and 19 trucks,  and combined those trucks have to cover 420 miles of road which leads to frequent maintenance.

Township Supervisor Jim Bock said they are looking for applicants who have an inspection license and a commercial driver’s license to work for the township before wintertime.

“It’s constant maintenance with the plow trucks, and that’s why the need for mechanics is very critical. It’s a public safety issue, in my opinion, and as you know with Erie weather, we could get a snow here by Halloween time,” said Bock.

The township supervisor also said they have resorted to contracting mechanics from other companies for up to $195 an hour, putting a financial strain on the township.

Bock said anyone interested in applying for the job should contact the Millcreek Township building at 814-833-1111 and ask for human resources.
