Golden Apple Award: Carrie Cady – Klein Elementary School

Carrie Cady is a first-grade teacher at Klein Elementary School in Harborcreek.

“I love being a teacher and I always wanted hopefully one day get a Golden Apple. But every day I come to school and do my best to teach these kids, so today is such a great day. Thank you,” said Carrie Cady, Golden Apple teacher.

Cady dreamed of being a teacher ever since the second grade.

“I would play school in my mom’s basement, and I would play school in my bedroom. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher,” she told us.

This week’s student nominator appreciates how this teacher communicates with parents using “grow notes” and “glow notes.”

“Every day the children have a chance to earn a glow note. And if they earn a glow note that means they are glowing in the classroom,” Cady said.

Little Elliot Schumacher knows what it takes to earn one, she’s gotten three of them!

“You have to be good and quiet in the hallway, and be nice and doing good things,” said Elliot Schumacher, student nominator.

Cady’s good communication with students and parents seems to make everybody happy.

“When you have happy parents and happy students, you have a very positive learning environment where both parents and students grow and glow,” said Mary Jo Melvin PhD, PennWest University.

Golden Apple winners are once again being rewarded by Big Ideas Learning.

“She makes teaching and being in the classroom fun and engaging for the students. and the work she’s doing to communicate with parents and caregivers at home. Making that connection early on is setting the standard for their future educational career, so we’re thrilled to support Ms. Cady,” said Carissa Snarski, Big Ideas Learning.
