Getting the green light — Ahead of Veterans Day, a national initiative called Operation Green Light will take place.

The Erie County Department of Veterans Services is asking businesses and homeowners to shine a green light outside from Nov. 4 to 11.

Erie County Executive Brenton Davis visits Corry to highlight 2025 budget proposal

Joe Benacci, the department’s director, said the gesture not only shows veterans they’re appreciated but opens up a dialogue about services and support that may be available.

“There’s a lot of needs that veterans have. Some are afraid to come and ask for them, others don’t even know they’re available…Usually if I sit down with a veteran, through our conversation, I can usually pinpoint or highlight a service that’s available for them that they don’t even know about,” said Benacci.

The Erie County Courthouse, library, and Department of Veterans Services will be illuminated. Benacci invites all to participate.
