Men who drowned in Northern California river on Fourth of July identified

(FOX40.COM) — The men who drowned in a Northern California river on the Fourth of July have been identified by the Nevada County Coroner’s Office.

One of the men was identified as 26-year-old Enrique Nieto-Hernandez of Yuba City. The other man was identified as a 24-year-old man from Nicaragua whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The two men were found dead from drowning in the Yuba River by the Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department.

Another man was identified after drowning in the Scotts Flat Reservoir, which is about 15 miles northeast of Grass Valley, as 29-year-old Juan Carlos Rangel-Avila of Reno.

The Northern California waterways have claimed the lives of multiple people in recent weeks, with a 37-year-old man from Oakland and a 30-year-old from Modesto losing their lives to drowning in the Modesto Reservoir within the last five days.

The drownings come after local law enforcement agencies have spent a majority of the summer warning their communities of the dangers the waterways can pose.
