Petrified wood building in Colorado made with materials that are 175 million years old
Lamar's Petrified Wood Gas Station was once dubbed the "world's oldest gas station" because of its unusual construction material. In 1932, lumber dealer William T. Brown decided to construct a building completely of Colorado petrified wood. With an estimated age of 175 million years, the ancient gas station became a popular roadside attraction. The building continued to operate as a gas station until Brown passed away in 1957. It was then purchased by Stagner Inc, becoming the "world's oldest car dealership." In 1974, Stagner Inc. moved its main offices to a larger building next door. Today, the building can be found hidden behind used Ford F-350s and serves as an office for the used-car dealership.
