Denver firefighter sues department for unpaid overtime
A Denver firefighter is suing the department, claiming he wasn't paid for overtime worked while he was in the fire academy. Shane Walter and his attorneys allege the unpaid overtime violates the Fair Labor Standards Act.In the lawsuit, filed July 15, Walter says that while attending the 18-week fire academy for new hires, he was given a flat salary representing a 40-hour work week. But Walter says each work day typically ran from 4:30am to 3:15-4:00pm and then the trainees were required to complete chores, such as cleaning. Milliken Police Officer Cleared Of Criminal Wrongdoing In Teen’s Shooting
A Milliken police officer has been cleared of any criminal charges in connection with the shooting of a teenager last month. That determination was made by Weld County DA Michael Rourke who issued his decision in a press release Wednesday. Authorities say on June 3rd, 18 year old Colin Brixius called police to say he was in front of Milliken Middle School and told police to come get him. Upon an officer’s arrival, Brixius reportedly began to run at the officer with a large knife in hand, prompting the officer to first deploy his Taser, which had no effect, and then to fire five rounds. Brixius was released from the hospital July 11, and booked into the Weld County Jail on charges of first-degree assault on a public official and felony menacing.

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Summit County government’s short-term rental regulations. Homeowners, in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Denver, alleged the Summit Board of County Commissioners imposed “successively more severe, wide-ranging, misguided and unlawful regulations” when they passed an ordinance implementing caps on short-term rental licenses and limits on bookings in February 2023.
