    Zanesville woman draws eight-year sentence for grand theft and attempted kidnapping

    ZANESVILLE − Kerris Sowers of Zanesville will spend eight years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted kidnapping, a fourth-degree felony; grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordnance, a first-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and misdemeanor domestic violence.

    The 21-year-old appeared before Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark C. Fleegle on July 1 for sentencing. He also ordered her to pay $1,076.95 in restitution.

    On April 9, Sowers called 911 to report violence by her boyfriend, according to a news release from the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office. They had an argument that escalated and Sowers began packing her items to move out. However Sowers threw the male's clothes out of a window and then swung a hunting in the air. She scratched him with the knife, according to the release, and began to stomp on his television and game system. Sowers then went outside and stabbed all four tires of the his car.

    Once law enforcement arrived, the male told authorities that Sowers had also stolen his firearm.

    After Sowers’ arrest, she assaulted a correctional officer and a law enforcement officer while being processed at the jail, according to the prosecutor's office.
