ZANESVILLE – Workers from the Zanesville Purina factory recently participated in the company's 23rd annual Purina Cares Day by dedicating two days to volunteering and engaging in community service, per a news release.

Projects were related to food security, community and restoration improvements and animal shelter enhancements. Purina associates completed a variety of services from cleaning, organizing and distributing supplies at various local entities. This included the Community Cupboard, Habitat for Humanity, James D. Singer Center, Muskingum Behavioral Health, Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center, Animal Shelter Society and United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties.

“Purina Zanesville truly puts its mantra of ‘people and pets are better together’ into action,” said Animal Shelter Society Executive Director April Gibson in the release. “The team enthusiastically helped beautify our facility, painting a total of 13 kennels, a board room, office and hallway; helping create a brighter and more welcoming environment for the animals in our care.”

The Zanesville team mobilized more than 55 associates over two days, donating an estimated 660 hours of volunteer time to the community.

“United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan counties’ goal is to bring people together to build strong, equitable communities where everyone can thrive,” said the agency's Community Impact Coordinator Katie Grubbs in the release. “It was great to have Purina Zanesville come out and volunteer their time helping the organization and helping create change in our community, whether it’s through helping people find shelter, food or a friend.”

Purina Cares Day is one of many ways Purina supports communities where its employees live and work. The company also donates more than $30 million annually in financial and product resources to pet-related and community non-profit organizations across the country. The Purina factory in Zanesville employs more than 125 local associates.

“Purina Zanesville is honored to be able to create such an impact in the community where we live and work,” said factory manager Nabor Carino in the release. “Our associates were able to donate their time across a wide variety of organizations to help the people and pets of Zanesville in need.”
