ZEELAND — A new space at Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital will provide an area for patients, visitors and staff to take a moment in the sun.

The hospital recently unveiled a new outdoor patio, for use by staff and the community. It’s located just outside the hospital, near its cafeteria, and was made possible by gifts. The lead gift came from Jon Walter of Walter’s Gardens in Zeeland.

“This new patio area is not just about medical care; it's about providing an environment where people can take a moment to breathe, reflect, and recharge,” wrote Bernard Jore, COO at Corewell Health Zeeland and Pennock Hospitals.

“This outdoor space reflects our commitment to creating an environment that supports not just physical health, but also mental and emotional wellbeing for everyone who walks through our doors.”

The space has tables with umbrellas for shade and adirondack chairs.

“Whenever the weather is nice, I come out here, sit, eat and enjoy a little bit of time away,” said Alyssa Hilgendorf, nuclear medicine technologist with Corewell Health. “When I go back, I can be more present and more refreshed and ready to take care of patients."
