Zephyrhills woman arrested after deadly crash on US 301 in Hillsborough

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have arrested a Zephyrhills woman after a crash on U.S. 301 in Hillsborough County killed a 19-year-old man in April.

Alexandra Mary Scheiner, 40, was arrested Monday on several charges, including DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, DUI with serious bodily injury and DUI with property damage.

Scheiner was driving her Mercedes north on U.S. 301 near Rapid River Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. April 8 when she crossed into the southbound lane for an “unknown reason” and collided with an Isuzu truck, the highway patrol said in a news release.

The Izuzu truck then struck a Toyota 4Runner that was behind Scheiner’s Mercedes.

After the impact, the Toyota and the Izuzu overturned in the east shoulder, while Scheiner’s Mercedes came to rest in the travel lanes of U.S. 301, the news release states.

The driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old man from Thonotosassa, died at the scene. Scheiner and the driver of the Isuzu, a 62-year-old man from Zephyrhills, both sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, troopers said. The highway patrol did not immediately identify the man who died or the man who was injured.

Troopers said Scheiner was driving under the influence of methadone, a drug typically used to treat people with opioid use disorder, and alprazolam, an anti-anxiety medication.

Records show Scheiner was being held at the Orient Road Jail on Monday without bond.
