Driver fatally strikes bicyclist at Tampa intersection
A driver fatally struck a bicyclist at a Tampa intersection on Monday, deputies said. The crash happened about 7:26 a.m. at the intersection of Bearss Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found the cyclist, a 65-year-old man, on the ground when they arrived. He died at the scene.

Northdale YMCA to add licensed preschool program
The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA announced July 11 that its Bob Sierra Family YMCA, 4029 Northdale Blvd., Tampa, will offer its Licensed Preschool Program beginning in August. The program, geared at 2- to 4-year-olds, will offer comprehensive programming dedicated to promoting the social, emotional and physical well-being of children and be led by certified and experienced childcare staff to ensure the highest quality of care and education with an evidence-based curriculum, according to the YMCA.
Tampa Battens Down for a Week of Heat and Storms, NWS Forecasts Intense Showers and Highs of 96 Degrees
The National Weather Service in Tampa has issued a forecast detailing a hot and stormy week ahead for the region, with a high chance of showers and thunderstorms across several days. Today, residents can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms developing later in the afternoon, with mostly sunny skies transforming and temperatures peaking near a sweltering 96 degrees. The heat index, which factors in humidity with actual temperature to estimate the real feel, is expected to soar as high as 107 degrees. Winds are predicted to stay gentle, moving southeast at 3 to 5 mph, and there's a 60% chance of precipitation. "Between a half and three quarters of an inch possible," according to the NWS forecast.
Lead Foot City operator eager to see racing at site
