The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio (BGCNEO) are likely to close locations due to funding loss. In late May, the Clubs announced they were losing $3 million in federal funding — $2.5 million from Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) funds, and $500,000 from federal pass-through funds through local schools. The organization launched the Save Our Clubs campaign, but CEO Allen Smith told The Land the funding gap has not been completely closed.

Akron-Canton Airport awarded $3.2 million to pave way for expansion
The Akron-Canton Airport is planning to add new ramps and hangar space with a $3.2 million state grant. “The addition of ramp pavement to the West Side General Aviation Area provides much-needed flexibility for our current and future tenants to expand,” said Ren Camacho in the release, president and CEO of the Akron-Canton Airport.
Dover Hopeful for More Grant Dollars
Dover is set to spend about 1.5 million dollars on stormwater management to accommodate the Schaeffler manufacturing facility coming to the city’s northern border. City Council Monday approved 1 million dollars in state grants to cover two-thirds of the cost. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says tax revenue from the project will cover most of the rest of the cost.
Walsh University Receives $9,000 Grant for Restorative Connections Project
The Center for Restorative Justice and Community Health at Walsh University, in partnership with the Simply Youth program in Stark County, has been awarded a $9,000 grant from the Stark County Social Justice Consortium/Stark County Community Action Agency. This funding is supporting the Impact Institute-Restorative Connections Project, directed by Dr. Michelle Bemiller, Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Director of the Center for Restorative Justice and Community Health at Walsh University. This program will run through the month of July, impacting youth ages 13 to 15 who are residents of the City of Canton.
