A 22-year-old man died after a crash near the intersection of Highway 62 and Indian Canyon Drive early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The agency said in a release that the crash, which was reported at around 2:30 a.m., occurred when a Hyundai that was in the process of making a left turn from westbound Highway 62 onto North Indian Canyon Drive collided with a Dodge traveling eastbound on Highway 62. ...
Joshua Tree man accused of battery on woman, 61
JOSHUA TREE — A report of a disturbance in the 6400 block of Valley View Street May 12 led to the arrest of Scott Grogins, 34, of Joshua Tree. Deputies responding to the report around 9:32 a.m. found a 61-year-old woman inside her home, suffering from significant trauma to her face and right eye; she was unable to see, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Wildfire scorches land near Morongo Grade
MORONGO VALLEY — A wildfire grew from 100 feet by 100 feet to 9.5 acres in west Morongo Valley before firefighters were able to contain it Wednesday. Morongo Valley, San Bernardino County and Cal Fire crews and air units battled the fire. Cal Fire reported 14 engines, a bulldozer, an air attack craft, air tanker and helicopter were all assigned.
Men arrested for grand theft at San Luis Obispo Home Depot
San Luis Obispo police officers arrested two Inland Empire men earlier this month after they allegedly committed grand theft at the SLO Home Depot store. On May 2, dispatchers sent officers to Home Depot for a report of a grand theft that had just occurred. Officers located and stopped the vehicle in which the suspects were traveling.

Brush Fire Scorches Close to Two Acres in North Palm Springs
A brush fire that erupted Friday adjacent to Highway 62 in North Palm Springs scorched nearly two acres and jumped a road before crews got it under control.
