NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The NYPD is investigating after an MTA bus driver who fatally struck a Queens woman a block from her home, then drove away last week.

At approximately 10:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at Baisley Boulevard and Bedell Street in Rochdale.

Further investigation determined that an MTA bus was traveling westbound on Baisley Boulevard, approaching Bedell Street when the incident happened.

As the MTA bus made a left turn onto southbound Bedell Street, it struck 31-year-old Amesha Mishael Keys, who was crossing the street, officials said.

EMS transported Keys to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

The bus driver did not remain on scene.

No arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.

In a statement Friday, MTA spokesperson Michael Cortez indicated the driver has since been identified.

"This was a tragic incident that took the life of a New Yorker. The operator, who passed routine drug and alcohol tests, is being withheld from duty as we fully cooperate with the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad. Our hearts go out to loved ones of the victim," MTA Spokesperson Michael Cortez said.
