NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 28-year-old man accused of going on two nights of tire slashing sprees in Newark was arrested on Friday, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

Nathaniel Jackson, of Newark, was wanted after multiple reports of tires slashed overnight on Monday and Thursday were made to police, Fragé said.

Tires on multiple vehicles were slashed in the 100 blocks of Mapes Avenue on Aug. 19 and in the 800 blocks of South 14th Street on Aug. 22.

According to ABC7 , as many as 30 cars had their tires slashed. Dozens of cars and SUVs were hit on the first night, while on 14th Street, the suspect is accused of puncturing tires on the driver’s side of vehicles, but only on one side of the block.

Slashing tires is an expensive form of vandalism, as tire replacement can cost hundreds of dollars.

Arresting officers recovered a weapon used to slash tires, Fragé said.

Jackson now faces multiple charges of criminal mischief.
