The suspect who was shot by deputies earlier this week after allegedly stabbing a K-9 officer has now been identified. As we previously reported, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and Dept. Of Homeland Security located a wanted suspect outside of Woodlawn Cemetery, Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis says the suspect now identified as James Edgar Hopkins was wanted on multiple warrants from Spartanburg County. Lewis says, Hopkins stabbed K-9 Officer Mickey multiple times after refusing to comply with deputies commands.

Deputies then fired on Hopkins, he was hit and injured. The K-9 Mickey was injured in the stabbing, but is said to be recovering well. No Deputies were hurt in the incident.

Hopkins was wanted on charges of distribution of meth, trafficking heroin, and failure to appear. SLED is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol in officer involved shootings.
