A lot of players caught the injury bug last year for the Indianapolis Colts. JuJu Brents , Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor, and many others.

One position group that had a lot of turnover last year was defensive back. Isaiah Rodgers Sr. was suspended for gambling and then there several injuries to that position group. Brents was one of those guys who endured multiple injuries last season.

The Warren Central High School graduate only played in nine games last year because of wrist, hip, and quad injuries. During the offseason, he had a “cleanup procedure” on his ankle and appears to be healthy to start year two.

Gus Bradley hasn’t changed the starting defensive backs through five practices yet. Jaylon Jones, Kenny Moore II, Julian Blackmon, Nick Cross, and Brents have been the guys receiving most of the first team reps.

It has been highlighted numerous times since the season ended that the Colts need to add some talent at that position. Dallis Flowers, Darrell Baker Jr., Jaylin Simpson, Micah Abraham, and Ameer Speed are all the backup corners. The common denominator with all those players is that they are unproved.

JuJu Brents joined Jake Query & Jimmy Cook Wednesday afternoon on Query & Company to weigh in on the reservations that Colts fans have about the corner backs.

“We all just got that chip on our shoulder. We keep our head down and keep working. You know we got some doubters out there, but I just want to tell you 100% that we got some dogs on our back end. I know we get the young tag and all that, but we got some dogs and guys that are going to compete. One thing about us is that we compete our asses off. We’re going to surprise a lot of people.”

JuJu is a hard player to not notice when you watch training camp practice at Grand Park. He’s the tallest, longest, and most physical corner the Colts have. During his nine games, he did have the chance at covering Nico Collins, Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, Ja’Marr Chase, Cooper Kupp, and Puka Nacua.

The Colts need the former Kansas State Bearcat healthy for all seventeen games because he has the best chance at being the guy who shadows the other team’s best receiver. Indianapolis will face Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, D.J. Moore, Justin Jefferson, Garrett Wilson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Malik Nabers, Calvin Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, and many other proven receivers this season.

Even though it’s year two, it could be a make-or-break year for him just because of his position.
