The preseason is done, and now NFL teams are witling their rosters down to the mandated 53-man size.

While there are plenty of questions for the Colts and who will make the final cut, perhaps the biggest questions surround a player whose spot is guaranteed. It’s been spoken about ad nauseum that quarterback Anthony Richardson is going to have some ups-and-downs, especially after missing most of his rookie season due to a shoulder injury. His performance last week in the Colts preseason finale against the Bengals reinforced that fact, as Richardson flashed his enormous potential but also his lack of experience.

For Colts fans, it would be best if they got used to this type of performance. Richardson has flashed plenty of potential, and will continue to do so, but consistency will more than likely take some time. Anyone expecting Richardson to come out and set the league on fire like his draft counterpart C.J Stroud did last year is setting themselves up to be disappointed. Richardson was always going to be a project, and missing most of last season did him no favors. There will be moments where he looks like a Hall of Famer, followed by moments where he looks like a total bust. This is the reality of having a quarterback that’s so inexperienced as your starter.

So Colts fans, fasten your seatbelts and make sure to keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle. It could be a wild ride.

During the Monday edition of The Ride With JMV, John spoke to former Colts and NFL offensive lineman Donald Thomas about the Colts young quarterback, and what the expectations are for him.

“I’m optimistic. I tell people all the time when they ask me, I think Anthony Richardson has all the physical attributes that anyone could ever want in a quarterback. Height, speed, weight, you name it, he’s got it. It’s just, he’s still young. In my opinion this is still his rookie year, and he’s going to have to really go through his ups-and-downs…the [first] drive in the last preseason game was very promising, and then the pick-6 wasn’t so much. I think unfortunately there’s going to be a lot of that this year as long as he stays healthy, but I think there’s tremendous upside for him.”
