Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at expanding the state's high-speed internet access by launching the Broadband Infrastructure Training Program. In partnership with The Ohio State University, Columbus State Community College, and the Workforce Development Board of Central Ohio, this program will offer free, comprehensive job training at Goodwill Columbus' latest center on Brice Rd.

Governor DeWine emphasized the critical need to bolster the broadband industry's workforce, estimating a requirement for approximately 32,000 skilled professionals solely for infrastructure development. The program will encompass essential training in broadband, electrical, and fiber connections, combining hands-on experience with the development of digital literacy and academic proficiency. Graduates will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials, such as Certified Premises Cabling Technician or Certified Fiber Optic Technician, paving the way for potential employment with telecom companies, suppliers, or contractors.

"This training initiative is essential to enable broadband companies to tap into upcoming infrastructure investments, positioning Ohio as an attractive hub for pioneering companies seeking access to cutting-edge wired and wireless communications," Governor DeWine remarked.

The funding, totaling $800,000 from recent capital budgets, will not only support the broadband-focused training but also encompass courses spanning IT, healthcare, hospitality, and commercial driving. For more details about this program and Goodwill Columbus' additional job training facilities, further information is available.
