Tragic Interstate 90 Crash Claims Life of Salt Lake City Resident

In a tragic multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 between Three Forks and Cardwell on Sunday, officials have identified the victim as 26-year-old Katie C. Montgomery from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Despite attempts to airlift individuals involved, adverse weather conditions prevented air ambulances from flying to the scene. The crash resulted in the closure of I-90 on Cardwell Hill for several hours, causing significant disruption.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office extended heartfelt condolences to Katie C. Montgomery's family and friends. Montana Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident.

The collision, reported to Jefferson County dispatch at 11:57 am on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, prompted a coordinated response from multiple agencies. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department, and Jefferson Valley EMSR, along with support from agencies in Madison, Broadwater, Butte-Silver Bow, and Gallatin Counties, collaborated with Montana Highway Patrol.
