Your Chance to See Cake at a Unique Venue in Atlanta

The band Cake holds a special place in my music-loving heart. I've seen them several times-over at Music Midtown (R.I.P.) and Shaky Knees, but the most memorable has to be at a small show at The Tabernacle.

As far as Cake goes, they've definitely been winding down over the years, as many bands do. Which to me presents the perfect opportunity to see them in a more laid back setting on a relatively low budget. Opportunity knocks, Atlanta.

Rival Entertainment presents An Evening with Cake on Saturday, September 28th at 7:30pm. The concert takes place at the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark, i.e., the grounds of Historic Fourth Ward Park, which seems to me to be a pretty epic place to see this iconic band.

The band with the totally unique sound started in Sacramento, California in 1991. After their initial album Motorcade of Generosity, Cake turned out five more albums between 1996 and 2011, and IMHO, every one of them is something special.

It's notoriously difficult to describe their sound. It's definitely rock, but with a melodic and eclectic vibe driven by lead singer and guitarist John McCrea. McCrea's buttery smooth vocals combined with Vince DiFiore's more-than-cool trumpet often produce two different melodies throughout many of their songs.

The lyrics are classically sarcastic, snarky, and clever. I can't think of another band like them.
