Worried about anti-Israeli protests erupting on campuses in the Fall, Governor Kathy Hochul talked with college presidents about the need to have emergency plans in place.

“Public safety is my top priority, and as classes resume, it is essential that all students feel safe and are free from harm," Hochul said.

During a meeting on Monday, the governor told the presidents they needed to review and update their emergency response plans. She said they must ensure that public safety officials have the resources they need to keep students safe on campus.

In the Spring, many college campuses in New York were plagued with demonstrations. At Columbia University, protesters took over part of the lawn and forced the school to cancel its university wide commencement ceremony.
