Sen. Gillibrand Calls For Free Meals In School

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for passage of a measure that would give all students access to free breakfast, lunch and dinner in schools.

“In the richest country on earth, it is unacceptable that millions of kids go hungry each day," Gillibrand said. “This bill would make our families and communities healthier and stronger, keep kids in school, and work to fight the stigma too often associated with meal programs."

Only eight states currently provide universal school meals. She said such programs are associated with a number of positive outcomes, including better attendance rates and performance.
