Report: Homeless Find Shelter At Penn Station

A number of homeless people have taken up residence at Penn Station, believing the conditions are better than at homeless shelters.

They tell the New York Post that at the transit hub they're often benefit from the generosity of commuters and aid workers. They're often provided with food, water and money which they say is better than the services they're provided with at homeless shelters in the city.

But many commuters say the number of homeless finding shelter at Penn Station has made them feel less safe. They complain there's drug use, filthy conditions and the worry about being approached by someone who is mentally ill.
