LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — The sign in the northwest valley has been up for years. Now, there’s new information about plans for College of Southern Nevada’s new campus at Elkhorn Road and Durango Drive.

Classes and facilities centered around public safety will be the emphasis when the campus is ready — possibly in 2028. Dr. James McCoy, vice president of academic affairs at CSN, said that’s a conservative estimate, with construction on the first campus building expected to begin in 2026. The campus will be the home of the Center for Excellence in Public Safety.

The 2023 Nevada Legislature approved $4.5 million for the project.

CSN has land on both sides of Durango, but the plans McCoy showed on Friday indicate all the initial development will come south of Durango between Elkhorn and Oso Blanca Road. Currently, only the Centennial Hills Park and Ride lot is on the property.

Overall, the site covers almost 41 acres, and the project is expected to cost just over $155 million according to the materials.

McCoy outlined plans that include two buildings and an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC). The first building will house the CSN Southern Desert Regional Police Academy. Student support services and a library are also part of the plans for the first building.

The project is currently still in the planning stages, with design for Building 1 expected to be complete around the end of January 2025.
