Man killed, woman seriously injured in Mecosta Co. 2-car crash

On Friday, deputies responded to a deadly two-car crash at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and US-131 in Mecosta Township.

They said the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. when a Nissan driven by a man from Belmont turned left as he was exiting the freeway. A Ford SUV driven by a woman from Remus was headed east on 8 Mile Rd and T-boned the Nissan.

The 64-year-old Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 64-year-old woman, was transported by Aeromed to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for critical injuries.

The Ford SUV driver had minor injuries. Deputies said she was released on scene, but the crash remains under investigation.

The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mecosta Twp Fire/Rescue, Mecosta County EMS, Life EMS from Newaygo County, Aeromed, and Meceola Central Dispatch.
