PENINSULA TOWNSHIP — A 49-year-old man from Peninsula Township was arrested for fleeing and eluding, operating while intoxicated, and failing to register the motorcycle after crashing his motorcycle.

According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 31 a Sergeant with Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office was traveling north on Center Road in Peninsula Township in a line of traffic headed to investigate a call for service.

As the Sergeant was traveling northbound on Center Road, an older Kawasaki Sport-style motorcycle approached his Patrol Tahoe from behind at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle then began passing his vehicle and several others in a no-passing zone. The motorcycle was passing with oncoming traffic present.

After seeing the reckless operation of the motorcycle, the Sergeant attempted to stop the motorcycle. The motorcycle disregarded the lights and siren and began to flee at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle was traveling at speeds over 100 mph.

The Sergeant began to lose sight of the motorcycle as it entered Seven Hills Road.

As the Sergeant approached Seven Hill Road and Bowers Harbor Road, he found the operator had crashed at the intersection and was trying to get back on the motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle was identified as a 49-year-old man from Peninsula Township and was taken into custody. He was arrested and lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, operating while Intoxicated and failing to register the motorcycle.
