Steelers Asst GM on Aiyuk situation, current WRs

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – There hasn’t been comment from the Steelers and obviously they can’t talk specifically a player under contract with another team, assistant GM Andy Weidl asked Thursday about it and said he deferred questions to general manager Omar Khan.

Weidl said Khan is the point person in those situations. He said in respect to the process and the people involved, Omar should speak on those situations. Weidl did say.

“One of the things that we do do, is any player that comes available, we always do our due diligence and we always talk about them,” Weidl said.

The potential trade, that has been extremely public, has lingered for weeks, meanwhile the Steelers go ahead with their current group of receivers, who Weidl praised.

“I think the receivers that we ended up with, we like,” Weidl said. “We’ve added speed to that room. We liked Van Jefferson when he was coming out of the trade from Florida. He had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl. He had a good year with LA in the Super Bowl year. He’s a guy with high football character. We respected him.”

“Scotty Miller, his route savvy. His speed, his quickness. He played on a Super Bowl winning team in Tampa.”

“Quez (Watkins), his deep speed ability and then Roman Wilson at Michigan. The speed and big play ability he showed last year. We like the room. We think it’s growing, it’s developing. We see it every day with the quarterbacks, the chemistry being developed.”
