The Mariners completed a 2-game sweep of the Padres on Wednesday with a 2-0 win. It was the Padres' fourth consecutive loss. The majority of the action came early in the game. Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning on an error by Luis Arraez to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Padres loaded the bases with just one out for Ha-Seong Kim, who hit a fly ball to shallow center field. Julio Rodriguez caught it and threw out Donovan Solano at home when he attempted to tag up and score from third base to tie the game. Jorge Polanco's RBI-single in the 4th put the Mariners up 2-0. The Padres rallied in the bottom of the 9th and had a chance to tie or win the game in dramatic fashion. After Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado drew back-to-back walks to begin the inning, Solano grounded out to shortstop, allowing both runners to advance into scoring position with just one out. After Jackson Merrill struck out, David Peralta hit what looked like a potential game-tying single up the middle, but J.P. Crawford made a nice jumping catch to end the game. The Padres will have a day off on Thursday before wrapping up their first half with a home series against the Braves.
