Virginia native travels with a giant cross to spread the Gospel and assist the homeless

Several people have taken up their cross for Christ

Decades ago, there was an older white male who would walk with a cross in Downtown Roanoke. News Herald shared a story about a man named Chuck carrying a cross, but I'm not sure this is the same person. Virginia native Nick Shindler is currently taking up the mantle of cross-carrying.

According to his Facebook page, Schindler is the pastor of Redemption Railroad. He has been traveling on foot across the US and is now on the West Coast, carrying a 75-pound cross to emphasize the love of Christ and the importance of bearing one another's burdens.

Shindler looks out for the homeless

He credits a manager of a Subway in Florida with taking a chance on him and giving him a job. His goal is to walk through every US state, sharing the love of Christ and offering assistance to those without homes.
