These pathogens evolve rapidly, often quickly developing resistance to antifungal drugs, reducing the effectiveness of available treatments. With the rise in immunosuppressive therapies and the increasing incidence and geographic spread of fungal infections aided by global climate change, there is an urgent need for collaborative efforts between research institutions to develop new therapies to combat fungal infections.

Arson Suspected in Washington Square Apartment Fire in Memphis, No Injuries Reported
An arson investigation is currently active after a fire devastated a vacant apartment complex in the Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis. The Memphis Fire Department responded to the scene in the early hours of Monday morning, with the first call coming in at around 3:17 a.m. The complex, formerly known as Washington Square Apartments, located off of Kimball Avenue, was reported to have suffered from multiple fires set intentionally within. According to Action News 5, officials estimate the damage to total roughly $250,000. Thankfully, no injuries were reported about these events.
Major violent, property crime down over 17% so far this year, Memphis police data shows
Crime in Memphis has continued its downward trajectory compared to last year's near-record high, Memphis Police Department data presented to the Memphis City Council Tuesday morning indicated.
