Popular Tucson Pizza Restaurant Moving to New, Larger Location

When one pizza restaurant closes, another isn’t far behind to open in its wake. Often, it’s in the very building the failed restaurant left. It is far easier for a new pizza restaurant to move into the vacated location thanks to all the necessary ovens and other equipment likely located inside. Investing in new pizza ovens is costly, not to mention it takes time to install and set a kitchen up to handle the massive appliances. That is exactly why a popular pizza restaurant with a legacy dating all the way back to Italy, is opening a new location here in Tucson.

Earlier in June, A&D Pizza, Inc. purchased the property at 5825 West Arizona Pavilions. The corporate name might not ring a bell, but Barro’s Pizza might. There are currently two other Barro’s Pizza restaurants in greater Tucson after the brand made the move down from metro Phoenix. Many of the restaurant’s recipes were perfected in Sarconi, Italy, where Angelina Barro was born. She eventually migrated to Chicago in the 1930s. 30 years later, the family opened their very first Barro’s Pizza in the Windy City. Angelina and her son Angelo went on to move to California later in the decade and then opened their first Phoenix restaurant in 1980.

It took a few decades to eventually make it down to Tucson, but the brand is alive and well in the Old Pueblo. The new location at 5825 West Arizona Pavilions will take over the space formerly occupied by Boston’s Pizza.

The address itself is rather unusual though. Not that it was the former home of another pizza restaurant, but that one of the current Barro’s Pizza restaurants is located across the street at 5884 Arizona Pavilions Drive.

The new space is considerably larger than the current address, so it is possible Barro’s will remain in the current location until the larger space is ready to go. At that point, it shouldn’t prove difficult to relocate operations across the street.

Moving a business, especially a restaurant, can often prove to be a challenge, as it requires current clients to adapt, learn about the new address, and possibly follow the restaurant across town. The new restaurant’s location is directly across the street, which makes moving about as easy as possible.

There is no word yet as to when a transition to the new location will take place (or if A&D Pizza, Inc. has plans for the smaller address). The ink on the building purchase is still drying, so it might still be a few months before anything official comes out, but to stay on top of when the new location opens, make sure to follow the restaurant on Instagram.
