AG Identifies Officer in Fatal Manchester Police-Involved Shooting

Concord, NH — New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella announces the identity of the Manchester Police Department officer involved in the shooting incident on June 28, 2024, that resulted in the death of Andrew E. Smith, age 56.

The officer who discharged his weapon was Sergeant Daniel Whelan, who has approximately 18 years of law enforcement experience. He has been with the Manchester Police Department since 2010.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
