A semitrailer caught fire following a crash on Interstate 88 near Farnsworth Avenue on Monday, leading to significant traffic disruptions in Chicago's western suburbs near Aurora. The incident, which occurred around noon, involved a collision between the truck and another vehicle, according to the Illinois State Police.

Responding to the scene, state troopers found the truck ablaze, causing the closure of all westbound lanes and one eastbound lane. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but authorities have confirmed that minor injuries were reported.

As emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire, traffic on I-88 experienced considerable delays. By approximately 12:30 p.m., the flames had been put out, though cleanup efforts continued, contributing to ongoing lane closures.

The Illinois State Police have urged motorists to seek alternative routes while the situation is addressed. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards of highway travel and the importance of maintaining vigilance behind the wheel.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and fire. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
