Big news out of Ohio: Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is making a major shift by relocating 175 jobs from its Akron headquarters to a new facility in Costa Rica. This move, part of their "Goodyear Forward" transformation plan, will take effect in early 2025.

The company confirmed to the Beacon Journal that some Akron-based employees will be laid off due to this transition. However, Goodyear declined to specify exactly how many workers will be affected. It’s worth noting that the layoffs won’t impact union employees.

President Mark Stewart mentioned in May that Goodyear had already cut 135 positions in the U.S. and Latin America. And it doesn’t stop there—earlier this year, Goodyear also announced plans to shut down its Malaysia plant, which left around 550 workers without jobs. Plus, in September, the company revealed plans to eliminate about 1,200 positions in its Europe, Middle East, and Africa sector.

With such large-scale job relocations and cuts, it's no wonder there’s growing concern about the future of American jobs. The continuous flow of layoffs and job relocations overseas is raising questions about the stability of the job market here at home.

What do you think about these ongoing job losses and the impact on American workers? Drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
