SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The search for justice intensifies in the tragic case of Johnnie Lee Johnson, affectionately known as "Car Wash," whose life was cut short in a devastating drive-by shooting on May 12, 2022, in the 1200 block of N. Huey Street.

Johnson, a devoted husband and father to a young boy, was known for his passion for cars, often detailing them for extra income. However, his legacy is now marked by the senseless violence that took his life.

Lieutenant Kayla Miller from Michiana Crime Stoppers emphasized the impact of the incident on Johnson's family and the community: "Having responded to that scene and having to hold a child so that way they don’t see that horrific and traumatic scene was a lot."

The shooting occurred with several witnesses, including children present, who saw a gray or silver mid-sized SUV fleeing north on Huey Street after the incident.

Lt. Miller urged anyone with information to come forward: "Part of this is trying to identify who those witnesses are and getting statements from witnesses so we can bring some closure for this little boy and Johnnie’s family."

Michiana Crime Stoppers guarantees anonymity for all tips received. If you have any information that could aid in the investigation, please call (574) 288-STOP (7867) or submit a tip online. Every piece of information is crucial and could lead to a $2,500 cash reward.

As the community rallies for justice, let us stand together to ensure that Johnnie Lee Johnson's memory receives the justice it deserves.
