Red Flag Warning Issued for Southern Oregon and Northern California

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford, Oregon, has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of Southern Oregon and Northern California, in effect from 2 PM to 8 PM PDT today, July 26, 2024. This alert warns of critical fire weather conditions due to strong gusty winds and low relative humidity.

    Areas Affected:

    • Southeastern portions of Fire Weather Zone 624 and southern parts of Fire Weather Zone 625 in Oregon.
    • Portions of north-central Fire Weather Zone 285 in California.

    Weather Conditions:

    • Winds from the west at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.
    • Humidity levels are expected to drop between 7% and 13%.

These conditions significantly increase the risk of wildfire ignition and spread. The NWS advises against any outdoor burning and urges residents to follow all local fire restrictions. The warning stresses that while no fires are currently reported, the weather conditions can lead to rapidly spreading fires should one ignite.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by signing up for emergency alerts specific to their county and familiarizing themselves with their emergency plans. The NWS also reminds the public to have multiple sources of information from authorities and to visit ready.gov/plan for more preparedness tips.

For more detailed information, including a map of the affected areas, visit the NWS Medford's website.
